A tribute to Marion Salmon from members of the Colchester Branch of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, by Janet Saunders and David Fremlin

Marion receiving a 10-year-service award in November 1999 from Martin Hunt, the Mayor of Colchester Marion Salmon was for many years a devoted supporter of the Colchester branch of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. Her husband suffered from Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, and from his death in 1982 she worked tirelessly on stalls and in collecting, knitting baby clothes and making cakes to sell. For fifteen years or more she was a valued member of the committee, until forced to retire by her own condition, eventually diagnosed as progressive supranuclear palsy, a form of myotonic dystrophy. She died on 13 May 2006, a few hours after the birth of her first grandchild in the same hospital. She is much missed.
